About Anxiety Disorder

Although they can severely disrupt a person’s work, social and family life, anxiety disorders are the most common and most treatable types of mental health problem.

Everyone feels anxious now and then. Anxiety prepares the body to meet challenges, dangers or unfamiliar situations. But there’s a big difference between everyday anxiety and having an anxiety disorder. People with anxiety disorders feel overwhelming tension when there is no real danger. They take extreme action to avoid the source of their anxiety.

Some common types of anxiety disorders include phobias, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. It’s often difficult to pinpoint the cause of anxiety disorders, but proper treatment can help most people overcome them. Treatment can include cognitive-behavioral therapy, medication, and lifestyle changes.
