Oaklawn’s Adolescent Substance Abuse
Program (ASAP) is offered at 2600 Oakland
Avenue, Elkhart, on Mondays, Tuesdays and
Thursdays, 4:00–6:00 p.m.
ASAP offers a supportive, safe setting where
participants interact with staff and each other,
expressing feelings and experiences. The average
length of stay in ASAP is eight weeks, but may
vary according to a teen’s individual goals and
treatment plan.
ASAP is designed for adolescents whose drug
use or alcohol abuse is interfering with personal
safety, achievements, and healthy family communication. Issues underlying substance abuse are
explored and addressed through group, individual
and family counseling. The goal of ASAP is to
provide an intensive group experience that both
educates youth and assists them in examining
their substance abuse issues.
Family Night (Thursday) is an integral part of
the Adolescent Substance Abuse Program.
Working together, families identify roles, expectations, and negative patterns while exploring the
overwhelming effects of behavior problems and/or substance abuse on the family system.
Continuing Care
Once the initial treatment is completed, a
16-week aftercare group is available for all
participants on Tuesday from 4:00–5:30 p.m. The
aftercare group focuses on relapse prevention
techniques and connecting youth to appropriate
social activities.
Program fees
Fees for ASAP are $44 per hour. Elkhart County residents may be eligible for a reduction
of fees based on family income and size. Medicaid, Medicaid rehabilitation, and commercial
insurance may reimburse all or part of the fee,
pending prior approval.
