About Dual Diagnosis Partial Hospital

Oaklawn’s Dual Diagnosis Partial Hospital (PPH) program is offered Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.- 3 p.m. and includes lunch. The program is located at 330 Lakeview Drive, Goshen. DPH offers a supportive, safe setting where participants interact with staff and each other, expressing feelings and experiences.

The average length of stay in DPH is 2-3 weeks, but may vary according to a person’s individual goals and treatment plan.

Program components include group psychotherapy, art and recreation therapy, goal-setting, progress reporting, psycho-education, and medication management. Individual, marital and family sessions are scheduled as needed.

The DPH staff includes a multi-disciplinary team of professionals: psychiatrist, addictions physician, psychologist, social worker, psychiatric nurse, activities therapist and chaplain.

Criteria for admission

People who are best helped by the Dual Diagnosis Partial Hospital Program are those with a psychoactive substance use disorder and one of the following:

  • emotional or behavioral condition that makes it difficult for the person to remain stable for over 72 hours;
  • an emotional or behavioral disorder which interferes with the person’s daily living functions;
  • emotional or behavioral condition that creates a threat to family members because of the addiction;
  • resistance to treatment which interferes with the ability to stay abstinent and requires daily intervention;
  • potential relapse signaled by behaviors or history or relapse after less intensive treatment;
  • an environment at home or work that interferes with recovery.

Benefits of the program

  • Patients participate in intensive, structured treatment during the day, but may continue to live at home, giving them opportunity to immediately apply the insights they have gained.
  • The program can be an excellent transition to outpatient therapy when 24-hour care is not medically necessary.
  • A lower daily rate can allow a longer length of stay with a significantly lower total cost than for inpatient treatment.
  • The program is flexible, with 24-hour monitoring and care available for detoxification, then partial hospital services offered according to individual needs.
