Adults who are addicted to alcohol or other drugs often deal with incredible challenges when faced with ongoing responsibilities. They may have difficulty seeking treatment, given their commitments to family, work and other obligations. In addition, their physical and emotional health, as well as their relationships with others, tend to suffer.

Oaklawn offers several Addictions Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs) which provide individualized and focused treatment for men and women, offering them renewed confidence and hope for the future. Addictions IOPs and aftercare programs are offered at 2600 Oakland Avenue, Elkhart. The standard length of  the programs is eight weeks, with variations made according to an individual’s goals and treatment plan.

Addictions Day IOP

Addictions Day IOP is a mixed gender group. The Day IOP is offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 10:00 a.m.–12:00 noon. Participants in Day IOP learn skills to become clean and sober, and work on communication and relationship skills as well as goal-setting.

MENTOR

Men who are addicted to alcohol or other drugs often face immense challenges in meeting ongoing obligations and responsibilities. MENTOR (Men Taking On Recovery) provides individualized and focused treatment for men who want help recovering from alcohol/drug dependence, offering them renewed confidence and hope. MENTOR addresses ways to cope with such issues as anger, frustration, stress and problems in relationships. MENTOR is offered on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 5:15-7:15 p.m.
A modified MENTOR group meets on a less intense schedule, Tuesday and Thursday, 5:15–7:15 p.m.

POWER

Women who are dependent on alcohol and drugs deal with a variety of unique problems. Oaklawn’s POWER (Positive Options for Women Entering Recovery) program provides specialized addictions treatment for women, offering them new hope for healing. Participants in POWER learn how addiction affects women differently than men. They learn skills to become clean and sober, and work on communication and relationship skills as well as goal-setting. Scheduling, child care and financial assistance for the POWER program help women overcome some of the barriers they face in obtaining treatment. POWER is offered on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 5:15–7:15 p.m.

Aftercare groups

After completion of an addictions IOP, participants begin a 16-week aftercare program which includes relapse prevention education and strategies as well as continued supportive intervention and monitoring. There are four aftercare groups offered:
Monday, 5:15–6:45 p.m. (mixed gender)
Tuesday, 5:15–6:45 p.m. (women)
Wednesday, 10:00–11:30 a.m. (mixed gender)
Wednesday, 5:15–6:45 p.m. (men)

Family group

Family involvement in treatment is a vital component to recovery. The family group meets on Tuesdays from 5:15-7:15 p.m. Clients and family members (or significant others) discuss the impact addiction has had on the family and relationships. Clients can continue to attend the family group as long as they are in addiction treatment at Oaklawn.
