Youth with problem behaviors can often benefit from an intensive group where they can share feelings and receive encouragement from their peers. Children’s Alternative Support Services (CASS) offers a safe, structured environment where children can begin to heal and grow.

About the program
The CASS group targets children 7-11 years of age who are experiencing behavioral and/or emotional problems, loss, emotional trauma, neglect, or abuse, in the home or at school.
CASS is offered four hours a day, Monday through Friday at 2600 Oakland Avenue, Elkhart.
CASS is a group treatment process which helps children:
- Express their feelings
- Problem solve
- Gain self-esteem
- Learn self-control
- Support and be supported by other children in similar situations
CASS group curriculum includes
the following topics:
- Anger management
(controlling/channeling anger)
- Self-protection (teaching
children to be assertive) and
learning about safe touch
- Feelings (learning to “name” specific emotions)
- Addictions (educating about the
effects of drug and alcohol use)
- Grief and loss
- Relaxation
Participants in CASS may be eligible
for free transportation to and from the

Fees
Fees for CASS group are $44 per
hour. Elkhart County residents may be
eligible for a reduction of fees based on
family income and size. Medicaid,
Medicaid rehabilitation, and commercial
insurance may reimburse all or part of
the fee, pending prior approval.
